Basic Steps to a Traditional Tea Ceremony
- Preparing the Teaware: Place the Gaiwan (covered bowl) on the tea tray and ensure all cups are ready.
- Warming the Teaware: Pour hot water into the Gaiwan and the tea cups to warm them up before adding the tea leaves.
- Adding Tea Leaves: Place the desired amount of tea leaves into the warm Gaiwan.
- Brewing: Pour hot water over the tea leaves and put the lid on the Gaiwan to steep.
- Straining: Pour the brewed tea through a strainer into a fair cup (pitcher) to ensure an even consistency and remove any stray leaves .
- Serving: Pour the tea from the fair cup into individual tea cups for serving.
- Enjoying: Offer the tea to guests to enjoy the aroma and flavor.
